The SSI (Scuba Schools International) Open Water Diver course is designed to provide comprehensive training for individuals who want to become certified scuba divers. The course typically covers a variety of theoretical and practical aspects of scuba diving. This certification is recognized world-wide and upon completion.

Open Water Diver Course Itinerary


On the first day, if possible, please arrive on the Tioman island(Kampung Paya) before 2:00 PM, as check-in is not available earlier. Hotel check-in is from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. From 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, we will start with theory classes and hands-on sessions on assembling equipment and snorkeling. The course will run until approximately 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Rest and free time in the evening, no classes.

On the second day, there will be two to three dives. Starting at 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM, we will conduct practical sessions in the sea covering skills, theory, and a written test. Rest and free time in the evening, no classes.

On the third day, another sea session for skills at 9:30 AM. In the afternoon, a boat dive at 2:00 PM. Write a diving journal at 8:00 PM in the evening.

On the fourth day, if someone is not okay or hasn't met the requirements, an additional dive is scheduled at 8:30 AM. In the afternoon, return home.

You can arrive on the Tioman island at any time before 12:00 PM (but not later than 2:00 PM). Departure from the island should be at the latest possible time (to provide extra time in case of any issues during the learning process).


 

What we will learn in SSI Open Water Diver Course

  1. Dive Theory:

    • Dive physics and physiology: Understanding the effects of pressure, buoyancy, and breathing underwater.
    • Dive equipment: Familiarization with scuba gear, including how to assemble, use, and maintain it.
    • Dive planning: Learning how to plan and execute safe and enjoyable dives, including dive tables and dive computers.
  2. Pool Sessions:

    • Confined water training: Introduction to basic scuba skills in a controlled environment, such as a swimming pool.
    • Skill development: Practicing essential skills like mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, and underwater communication.
  3. Open Water Dives:

    • Open water training: Applying the skills learned in confined water sessions to real-world diving scenarios.
    • Minimum number of dives: Completing a set number of open water dives (typically four to five) under the supervision of an instructor.
    • Dive planning and execution: Gaining experience in planning and conducting open water dives.
  4. Safety and Emergency Procedures:

    • Emergency preparedness: Learning how to handle common diving emergencies and situations.
    • Rescue techniques: Acquiring basic rescue skills and understanding the importance of teamwork and assistance underwater.
  5. Dive Environment Awareness:

    • Marine life identification: Recognizing common underwater flora and fauna.
    • Environmental conservation: Promoting responsible and sustainable diving practices.
  6. Knowledge Review and Assessments:

    • Quizzes and exams: Evaluating theoretical knowledge through written assessments.
    • Final exam: Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the course material.
  7. Certification:

    • Upon successful completion of the course, students are awarded the SSI Open Water Diver certification, allowing them to dive independently with a buddy to a specified depth.
